A very precious antique book from 1500, entitled Iacobi Sannazarii opera omnia latine scripta nuper edita..., was returned this morning by the carabinîrs to the library in Glemone, in the presence of the mayor of the municipality, Roberto Revelant, and the library director. This book had been missing since the 1976 earthquake: it is thought to have been taken from the rubble of the collapsed building. In 2023, it had been put up for sale online on an e-commerce platform for two hundred euros by a couple residing in Rome; it had then been sold in Spain to a man from Alicante who, when contacted by the carabinîrs, stated that he was unaware of any theft. He returned the book promptly, and the Roman couple who sold it gave him his money back.
A mayor is known in Friulian by either of the following terms: il sindic, il prin citadin. Sindic: pronounced with tonic stress on the first syllable. An excellent resource to check where tonic stress falls in a Friulian word is the Dizionari de lenghe furlane (Sandri Carrozzo); in this dictionary, a stressed syllable is marked by a grave accent. For instance: sindic /sìn-/ sin|dic; from sin|dic, we understand that this word has two syllables; and from /sìn-/, we understand that tonic stress falls on the first. Another example: orcolat /-àt/ or|co|lat; from this, we understand that the word has three syllables, with tonic stress falling on the third.
