An elderly man who, early yesterday afternoon, drove his car the wrong way for thirteen kilometres along the highway narrowly avoided causing a serious accident. The man, dressed up as a circus clown, was driving at top speed. The highway police began receiving numerous telephone calls from people telling of an unkempt clown, with a lopsided wig and cigar in his mouth, driving the wrong way in the overtaking lane. Agents promptly blocked traffic as they waited for the clown to be caught by a patrol. In just a few minutes, they managed to pull aside the car, inside of which was the eighty-five-year-old clown. He was in a state of confusion, under the effect of alcoholic substances. A truly pathetic scene: the clown was so sozzled that he even started throwing up in front of the agents. For the elderly clown, for whom it was a miracle if he could stand on his feet, immediate revocation of his driving licence and a hefty fine. / r.p.
