Tractor-trailers going wrong way nearly cause tragedy along highway: Two foreign tractor-trailers narrowly avoided causing a serious accident when, for reasons still unclear, they entered the Tarvis highway exit junction in the wrong direction. Immediately afterwards, with a series of risky manoeuvres, they turned back to the correct direction but endangered their own safety and that of many people on the road. Thanks to numerous reports and alerts from safety sensors along the highway network, the traffic police operations centre quickly located the two vehicles, which were stopped by patrols near a parking area. For the two drivers, immediate revocation of their driving licence, tractor-trailers impounded for three months and heavy fines.

Autoarticolati contromano, si è quasi arrivati alla tragedia lungo l’autostrada: Per un pelo due autoarticolati stranieri non hanno provocato un grave incidente... / Read an Italian and Friulian version side by side: see number 10.

Par un pêl no àn provocât un brut incident: by a hair they did not provoke a serious accident, which is to say, they narrowly avoided causing a serious accident. Par un pêl no pierdevi l’autobus: I caught the bus right in the nick of time. Used in the original article on the Vôs website: par un nie (by a trifle); as in: par un nie no àn provocât un brut incident. Nie: two syllables, tonic stress on the first (nìe).

Forest: foreign (as an adjective), foreigner (as a noun). Autist: driver. In the plural, these are: forescj, autiscj. Example: un autist forest (a foreign driver); autiscj forescj (foreign drivers); chescj forescj a son autiscj (these foreigners are drivers).

Svincul di jessude: This translates literally as exit junction or exit interchange, but, in practical terms, what is being referred to in the news report is an exit ramp. This latter term can be translated to Friulian as: une rampe di jessude (an exit ramp), une rampe di jessude autostradâl (a highway exit ramp). Example: al à cjapade la rampe di jessude cuintri man (he took the exit ramp in the wrong direction).

Patulie: tonic stress falls on the second syllable (patùlie).
